Default About RealAlternative Player

Right then Bill. ;-) I'll let you know what develops. As far as almost any
program, I mostly do "custom" installs. Definitely should be the case with
RP which wants to download and install the "entire world", and particularly
any "Here, let us *help* you, we just have to phone home" program.

Lol. by the way, speaking of Smokey you might want to check this out:
http://www.terrificmusic.com/index_long.html

PS: that singingfish I told you about quite a while back has been
"commandeered" by A-(h)OL. So it ain't what it formerly was. Do you
perchance have any personal contact with any of the regular posters here?
Reason I ask is because I'd like to contact you, but do not wish to
broadcast my addy. I, and some here in the NG do confer a bit privately.
Thanks, as usual. ;-)

I used rp8-setup.exe (BASIC). My exe is about 5 MB in filesize.
And under properties, mine also says version 6.0.9.665

I forgot to mention that - I always use BASIC (not the extended bells and
whistles version).

I think that's it!

Now, let me know how Media Player Classic works out for ya over the weeks,
if ya get a chance to really play around with it. Who knows, maybe it

was
Just My Imagination (but not Smokey, this time)

Well... a more confusing nomenclature and version numbering system would

be
hard to find. In fact I'd say there's something "shifty" about their

version
and numbering system. OK... on Disk I have saved the following versions

of
Realplayer:

RealPlayer10Gold - version 6.0.12.857 - (9.72MB) (mar 30, 2004)
RealOnePlayer version 2.0 - RealOnePlayerV2GOLD.exe - version

7.0.0.2151 -
(8.27MB) -(Jan. 22 2004)
RealOnePlayer version 1.0 - RealOnePlayerGold.exe - version 7.0.0.1364 -
(8.65MB) -(aug 15, 2002)

RealPlayer 8 - rp8-setup.exe - version 6.0.9.665 - (4.89MB) 4.6 MB
(©1995-2000)
RealPlayer 7 - rp7-standard-setup.exe - version 6.0.8.122 - (7.08MB)

(Size:
3636 KB) (©1995-2000)
RealPlayer G2 (version 6) r32_g20_3sm.exe - version 6.0.6.99 -
(3.06MB) -(Size: 3.1 MB) (©1995-1999)

RealPlayer 5 -rp32_50.exe Private Build:5.0.0.77 - (1.35MB)

(©1995-1997)
RealPlayer 4 - rp32_401.exe version 4.0.20.126 - (1.13MB) (©Progressive
Networks 1995-1)
RealAudio Player 3 - ra32_30.exe version 3.0.1.15 - (752KB)

(©Progressive
Networks 1995, 1996)

Their sizes are also very hard to follow, and somewhat contradictory as
well.g Oddly enough, RP8 (ver. 6.09.665) is smaller in size than RP7,

but
RP6 is smaller than either of its successors. Anyway, I presume one of

the
middle group of three would be what you might recommend. I'm kind of

tempted
to try RPG2 (version6) as it is the smallest. Also have versions 1 and 2

of
RealJukebox on Disk as well, but lets *not* go there. ;-)

As for the rest of what you stated regarding Media Player Classic, I'm

now
somewhat confused. ;-D

Version 8. I looked at the real exe file date, and it was back in

2001
!
Works fine for me. But I wouldn't go much later (in versions) if I

were
you.
BTW, I expect you could probably find it at oldversion.com, but I

haven't
checked it out.

As for my other comment: I want to add that I found Media Player

Classic
to
be damn good - and very remarkable, considering it was freeware. It's

just
that I seem to recall there were a few inconsistent (but only small

order)
nuances, when I used it. I'd be interested in hearing how it works

out
for
you. Considering what it does, and that it is free, it is quite
remarkable! I may go back and try it again, for that matter.

I'm not sure if this directly relates, but I tried Media Player

Classic
and
liked it but found it just a tad buggy - nothing too serious as I

recall -
so I removed it. As for Real Alternative and the other

Alternatives,
why
bother? Just download the old version of the *real* Real Player,

and
be
done with it. Why Mickey Mouse around with the Alternative

substitutes?
The old Real Player works fine, and is non invasive.

Haven't we been down this road before???? :-)

snip I am using RealAlternativePlayer which utilizes Media Player
Classic
version
6.4.7.5. *Many* times, upon playing a music file(s) of various types

such
as .ram, .wmv, .ra, .rm, and so forth, and I desire to close the

player,
it closes, and thereafter a message box of the "This program has
performed an illegal op, and will now close" variety will appear.

The
thing is, I *am* in the process of closing it, so *"It can't Fire

me,
because I Quit"*. (hehe) But why would it do that when I am in fact
trying to close it already? Seems to be closing the barn door after

the
horse is gone, so it's just plain annoying. Is it just a buggy

program?
Have any other users out there had this occur? What, if anything,

can
be
done to fix that unnecessary extra step?
