Default AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!

I stupidly upgraded to IE6, then to compound the stupidity I attempted
to upgrade my good ol' Win98 to Win98SE with the ultimate goal of then
upgrading to WinXP. Now I'm sure you'll agree that's a lot of upgrading.

Well, let's see where I am now.....

Win98SE errored out and would not upgrade me, but it was nice enough to
nuke my Norton AV, and that won't even re-install.

Ah but that's not all....

I find I suddenly can't delete anything, any attempt to do so crashes
Windows!

Still there's more.....

I said to myself "Why not do a registry restore!" I dazzled myself with
my own insight and brilliance. Start/shut down/restart in MS-DOS
mode/enter.....

Blue Screen of Death!

"Hmmm" I said to myself (at this point I was talking to myself quite a
bit...oh and drinking pretty heavily too) anyway where was I...oh yes,
"Hmmm" I said to myself, perhaps if I booted from the floppy I can get
into DOS from there." Dig through dozens and dozens of floppies I find
the startup disc, pop it in and restart the computer.

Boots right up into Windows, I might as well have stuck the floppy up my
nose for all the good it did.

Check the floppy and sure enough the startup files are on there. Open
the floppy and all seems right. Power down the whole PC. Have another
drink. Power it up and sure enough it boots right into Windows again!!!

Curse the day Bill Gates was born, have 2 more drinks then stare
vacantly at the monitor for an hour or 2. Go outside in the yard and
take out my frustration on several unfortunate slugs that happened to be
oozing around out there. Have another drink.

Ahh...upgrading....when will I ever learn?

Now I have limited use of the PC so long as I don't attempt to delete
anything, oh and by the way any attempt to "right-click" on anything to
get to the shell menu.....let's just say that that's a bad thing at this
point.

So I'm sending this little cry for help out to you guys as you are very
knowledgeable where these things are concerned.

My question basically is...How many feet do I have to drop this evil thing
to make sure it never ever does this to anyone again?

I'll be anxiously awaiting any comments, if I can keep the newreader
working till then I may actually read them too...
