Default New 120 GIG Hard Drive: Garbled Folder appeared: BIOS flash ??

One point Rick missed - make sure that you get the BIOS from the same source
as you got the motherboard:-
If you bought the motherboard as a separate item, get the bios from the
motherboard manufacturer
If you bought it as part of a system - get the BIOS from the System
manufacturer (or at least check on their website where to get it from).

What can appear to be identical motherboards can be very different once
OEM's get hold of them!

Hi

Thanks for the ideas guys. I don't think I'm going to escape from flashing
my BIOS. Up to now I've tended to shy away from doing it for obvious
reasons. My motherboard book gives some help on the process. Id appreciate
some pretty detailed help tho pls as its a pretty drastic step!! My BIOS
(info provided by Sandra Software) is as follows:

SiSoftware Sandra

General Information
Manufacturer : Award Software International, Inc.
Version : 6.00 PG
Date : 08/21/2001
Plug & Play Version : 1.00
SMBIOS/DMI Version : 2.20
ID : FC 01 00
(EE)PROM Size : 256kB (2Mbit)

General Capabilities
Can be Updated/Flashed : Yes

Performance Tips
Tip 201 : System BIOS is old. Check for an update.
Notice 224 : SMBIOS/DMI information may be inaccurate.

OK!! What do I do know? Do I need any Chipset info? Can I get a free flash
(so as to speak)? I think I need to d/l the upgrade and copy on to a

second
floppy but how will I know it will support my 120 GIG? I then use my EBD

and
in DOS install it. My book says I need to use AWD8XX.EXE (where 8XX is the
version number) ????

Id really appreciate any help and any links please....otherwise I just

might
not be around for sometime.LOL

Thanks

Nigel
