I just quoted him as a warning as to what some deranged individual could
accomplish *if* said individual really had a strong desire to cripple 9x
systems. As of now, that's not happening, thank goodness.

As far as ME being unstable, it's still running on my dual boot box and
quite nicely. But not as my main OS, more as a research sys.
And, I can even surf without a firewall for short periods of time due to
forgetting to turning it on. Would never do that using XP SP2, no matter
how patched it's been. Of course SP2 would be nagging about no firewall,
but that's another matter.

I agree with you and cannot accept Mow's statement "That's why these 9x
and ME systems crash a lot." since it is so far from the truth and the
statement about rootkits he quotes is IMO of almost no relevance
whatsoever to Win 9x systems however highly esteemed the source might be.

As to your question about how long these newsgroups will survive after
end June 2006, I have no idea but suspect that Microsoft might attempt
some (overdue) consolidation of the various Win 9x newsgroups however
that is far from easy given the nature of Usenet where a "dead"
newsgroup can quite easily be resurrected but at least the newsgroups
carried on the Microsoft servers could be reduced.
