Default Windows ME Help Center Error

1. If I attempt to choose a restore point I receive the msg "There are
currently no restore points available" If I attempt to create a restore
point I receive the msg "System Restore is not able to create a restore
point."

2. I haven't used Restore for at least a year.

3. Disable and rebooted - reset and rebooted - no change.

4. Restore Folder on "C" is 960KB - I could not find the size of Archive &
TEMP subblolders.

Jim,

Thanks for the information as to when you first downloaded the broken
version of KB911562.

You say you cannot create a checkpoint but without more information there
is little that I or anyone else can do to help you. What EXACTLY happens
and what do you see when attempting to create a system restore checkpoint?
Naturally if you are unable to make a checkpoint then its unlikely the
system can either so having no checkpoints doesn't really come as a
surprise. Do you have any idea as to when this problem might have
started?

In the absence of any information to work with my first suggestion is to
reset system restore as follows:
Control Panel | System | Performance | File System | Troubleshooting,
check "Disable System Restore", immediately reboot and then back to
Troubleshooting and uncheck "Disable System Restore" and once again
immediately reboot.

Now try creating a checkpoint. Any luck? If not how big is the \_RESTORE
folder on the C:\ drive? To fully see this folder in Windows Explorer you
will have to enable the viewing of all hidden files and folders. Do this
in Windows Explorer as follows: Tools | Folder Options | View and check
"Show hidden files and folders" and UNcheck "Hide protected system files".
Also how big are the ARCHIVE and TEMP sub-folders?

create a restore point and there are no other restore points to go
back to.
