Default problems reloading Windows 98SE

What you need is the ProductKey, NOT the ProductID. The PK is a sequence of 25
#'s/letters broken into 5 groups of 5. 5 #'s/L's-5 #'s/L's-5 #'s/L's-5 #'s/L's-5
#'s/L's
If you have not formatted the drive, then you can get the PK from the registry in a
few ways.

MVP George Gedye has an app that will pull it from the registry for you.
http://www.mvps.org/PracticallyNerded/

Click on Software, click on Applications, scroll down to RegInfo ver3.

Your ProductID and Product Key can be found in the registry. Go to Start Run, type
in: regedit and hit enter. Navigate to:
Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion
Click once on CurrentVersion, the name not the +, and scroll to ProductID or
ProductKey in the right pane.

If you can't boot Win98 and haven't formatted the system drive, then boot with a
startup floppy or to a command prompt and run either of these:
C:\Windows\command\Find /I "ProductKey" c:\windows\system.dat
C:\Windows\command\Find /I "ProductKey" c:\system.1st
If these steps aren't possible (you already formatted it), US customers can contact
Microsoft at: 1 800 642-7676. They will issue
retail and OEM product keys after verifying data located on the W98 CD.

I am using 98SE and have been since 2000. I have
developed a Trojan that I am trying to rid myself of by
reloading my 98SE operating system. I have used this fix
in the past for other issues. This time when I used by
98SE disk, I was asked to provide a product number. My
product number is an original equipment number and when I
try to enter it into the Windows Product Key window, I run
out of numbers before I use all the blank spaces.

As a result the window will not recognize my product id #
as valid and the installation process stops at that point.

Anyone have a suggestion as to how I need to proceed??
