Leaving aside the earlier noted problems with SR checkpoint prevention in a
few ZA versions, I have never had any problems with the free ZA on any WinME
or XP machine.
Considering that I am this galaxy's prime example of "Murphy's Law", I think
that is very good.

I realize others may have a quite different experience. User "error" is
often the fundamental answer to such problems.
A personal firewall, either software or hardware, is essential today, like
an AV tool. IMO, not to use one is to be an irresponsible member of the
internet community.

Hi Rick,

I think every version of ZA I've tried for the last couple of years has
resulted in issues, right from the original build that stopped ME creating
restore points. Up to then I'd been a dyed-in-the-wool ZA user. I put it

on
my sister's machine and there were regular freeze ups that stopped the
moment I removed ZA and replaced it with Sygate (then Kerio). I know there
was at least one other problem with a later ZA build (in ME), the nature

of
which my brain appears to have fifo'd!

But last year I came across three examples of ZoneAlarm stopping the

ability
to send e-mail via OE (it could be received OK). That was on two XP

machines
and one ME machine, one ZAP and two ZAF. The cure was to delete all
Allow/Block/Ask rules (none of which had any obvious bearing on the issue)
and start again.

Every time I've decided to give Zonelabs another chance there have been
problems (besides which I got used to fine tuning rules with Kerio 2.x.x.

I
think for making one's own rules both Kerio and Sygate are more
comprehensive! Or anyway more intuitive).

Anyway, I won't deny it's my personal opinion - I didn't like their

ditching
the deskband - and I know you're not alone in *not* having problems with

ZA.

I don't consider Zone Alarm a contender and so it's a toss up between
Kerio and Sygate Personal Firewalls.

? How come? I've never had any real problems with ZA; easy to install,
etc.; mind you I've rolled back a few versions because I don't like
fighting default settings I don't use (e-bay password, mailwasher)
