Default Reverting to earlier version of Windows

Thanks for the additional help.

If I can get the flash drive to work in Win 98, I may just forego the
upgrade to ME.

I hope you might help me with one more thing. I want to mark your posts as
helpful or something. I dimly recall doing this in the past. Now I'm
staring at the screen looking for some way of doing this. If it is there I
just can't see it.

Installation problems of that kind are usually caused by installing the
drivers *after* plugging the drive in.
try this
Power down, and unplug all USB devices
Boot to Safe Mode, remove ALL USB-related entries in Device Manager
reboot to Normal Mode, and allow Windows to reinstall the drivers for the
base USB socket and hubs, and reboot again - then install the drivers for
the flash drives, and then plug the drives in

Thanks for your reply. I'm doing the upgrade essentially for USB support.
I
have never been able to install a USB driver in Win 98 SE from the flash
drive-included CD successfully.

I know that I'm very late in replying. I've gone days without being able
to
access this forum.

I'm about to upgrade a friend's PC from Windows 98 to ME. I will
retain
the
existing setup in case something goes wrong. If it does, how can I
restore
Windows?

Using Add/Remove Programs.
It's far better, though, to use a proper Image of the drive, if you have
the
software and hardware available - the A/R programs relies on the upgrade
being reasonably sane in the first place.

There's not really much point in doing such an upgrade from 98SE to ME -
is
this 98FE?? - are you doing it for USB support?
