Default shared printer on 98 and XP problems

Yes, It prints when connected directly to the 98 machine with no problems. I
haven't tried sharing to the XP yet but will. However the network is fine as
all 3 computers are sharing information from the XP machine and when I have
the printer connected to the XP then the 98's can 'see' it but just not load
the correct drivers. (The computer and the driver CD are straight out of the
box

Were you successful in getting the printer to work when it was directly
connected to the 98 machine? Have you tried running the installer on the
98
machine and browsing to the printer (shared from the XP machine) when
asked
for the location? What, exactly, happens?

Hi haggis,
I have tried that but when I tick the 98 box it then asks me for the

Windows
98 disk which I have put in but of course it is unable to find the
drivers
on that. I have also put the printer driver disk in too and again it

doesn't
seem to be able to find the correct file even when I search for it.

Hi,
I have just bought a new HP Deskjet 2300 series USB printer. I have
installed it onto a windows XP machine and shared it for all users. I

now
have 2 98 machines and I am having some trouble connecting to the
printer. I can see it over the network but can't seem to get it to

work.
I run through the wizard but can't find the correct drivers to load
the
printer. I get to the stage with the list of printer and click on HP
(left hand side) and then my printer isn't in the Right hand side list

so
I click 'have disk' but then can't find any file that works (can't
find
the software that is associated with your hardware). I have also tried
installing the printer onto the 98 first, then transferring it back to
the XP then trying to connect to the shared printer but still can not

get
a connection.

I am stuck. Please help.
Cheers
Lenny

go back to the XP machine and run through the setup ...somewhere it
will
give you an option of installing "additional drivers" on the XP
box...install the w98 drivers

then when the w98 box maps the printer for use , it is supposed to dl

the
drivers from the host XP box
