Great advice Gary and I will follow it in the future. One of my housemates
(we all go to the same church and living in the same house cuts down on
costs) who is not as computer savvy as I am got hit with Viewpoint Player and
I have removed it in the past on other people's computers but I will let him
deal with it because he is very sensitive about having anyone mess with
anything. I am this way too but at least I am more open to correction than
he appears to be. LOL

It is most likely that if all you are doing is replacing drivers for the same
device, there won't be any net change. At least not where the pure drivers
files are concerned. Many such devices, however, also install management
software, and if the vendor changed that software to an entirely different
program, you might end up with garbage left over. What I would do is check
Add/Remove Programs for any program devoted to that video card. First
download the new drivers, then change the video to Standard VGA, then
uninstall anything you think should be uninstalled from Add/Remove Programs,
then install the new program+drivers. One way to tell if the files you're
installing include management software is by the size of the downloaded
package. If it's only a few hundred KB or less, it's most likely drivers
only. If it's in the range of a couple of megabytes or more, then management
software is included.

Of course, what's *most* likely is that the software is the same, or a newer
version of the same, and it would be no problem to simply download and run
the installer, without worrying about any of this. But it's one of those YMMV
situations. I, too, run an ATI card (Radeon 8500, I think), but it's been a
while since I installed any drivers for it.

Gary on this note, I wanted to mention that my PC has a fairly recent

version
of my ATI Graphics card 9200 but not the most recent version. I know how

to
unistall the driver, switch to Standard VGA, and install the most recent
driver from the website. I like to do this in order to have support for

the
latest games through 98SE even though I am not a huge gamer like I used to
be. How do I ensure that I have removed all the traces of the old driver

to
help prevent too much junk for getting on my PC? Since this is a recent
clean install of 98SE from the new year; I thought I would start things out
on the right foot. TIA for all of your help.
