"I found the problem: SpywareBlaster was blocking active x controls.
Previously I had uninstalled Blaster but that did not solve the problem,
which led me to believe that it was not causing the problems. But just now I
"remove protection for all items" in Spywareblaster, and now there are no
problems with accessing websites using IE. Thanks for your help.
