had this to say:

I'm having serious doubts about the compatibility of the driver with
ME. I was told a Win 98 compatible driver should also work with ME.
I'll try driverguide.com.
Thanks for your help, Galen.
I'll probably be back trying to figure out how to install a new OS.

Lydia,

A 98 driver generally will work with ME, in my experience I'd say at least
95% of the ones that I've used have worked. I'm actually using a 98 driver
in XP for my now long since un-supported web cam. I do hope that you're able
to find one that works. If you install another operating system I highly
recommend XP. One of it's greatest features is so many devices are
recognized automatically. I was amazed when I first installed it and saw
that the Zip drive was recognized before the OS was even fully installed.
I'd recommend your laptop be at least 700 MHz and that you have at least 256
MB of RAM though or it will run rather slowly. It will run probably but it
will not run very rapidly. I've installed it on CPUs as slow as 350 MHz and
128 MB of RAM.
