Default Router Firewall

Hilton Head is serviced by a local company called Hargray Communications.
They screw everything up including cable TV. Your brief hookup with Verizon
showed Hargray was blocking you.

This is not an OS issue but given my experience with ME's regulars, I
thought this would be an appropriate place to obtain a resolution.

I have just returned from a 2 week vacation in Hilton Head. I travelled with
our laptop and had no trouble accessing the web or using Outlook while en
route. However once there, I could no longer send mail in Outlook, although
I could receive. The only other issue I had was that for some reason I could
not access a particular website (www.skygolf.com) in order to download
specific golf courses to my skycaddie GPS system. I initially thought that
the website was offline but after calling the support staff, it was
suggested that the problem was firewall related. It was not my firewall
software because I configured it to allow skygolf, so I am assuming it was
the router firewall.

The villa/condo we rented had broadband wireless internet. On one occasion I
was able to switch to another weaker wireless signal (offsite) that allowed
access to skygolf and also to send mail via Outlook but I could not find
that access again, which further reinforced the notion that the problem was
related to the hardware firewall. Thus the question is what are my options
if I should experience a similar problem in future travels? Is there a
workaround?

Thanks in advance.

Dan
