Yes, I mean Selective Startup and answering "No" to the config.sys file. I
can't find the config.sys file. There is a couple of config files with blank
extensions, one with nothing in it and the other that says MIDI Instrument
Definition. One is config.pss that is empty. The autoexec.bat file is empty
and there is an autoexec.pss file that is empty.

Do you really mean Selective Startup in msconfig and you uncheck config.sys?
Diagnostic Startup in msconfig interactively loads device drivers and software.

If you had an issue with startup and unchecking config.sys appears to solve
the issue, please post the contents of the config.sys and autoexec.bat in a
response in this thread.

I ran the diagnostic startup to bypass configsys file and that fixed the
problem with hanging up at startup, now when I click on Control panel,
Display, Settings the screen goes blank and hangs up win98. Are there any
answers to this mystery?
