Yes, that is the key to getting the setting to stick. Note that Windows only
remembers a set number of folder settings....I forget the number, 200 perhaps...and
then it will drop the first folder's settings in order to store the 201st. If you
uncheck "Remember each folder's settings" in Folder Options View, you can avoid
that but will not have the options to retain individual settings for differing
folders.....all your folders will use the same settings.

Thank you , glee . I think that "Close Explorer by holding down the CTRL
key while clicking the X in the upper right " may have fixed it . I had
already gone through the previous steps without success ; but , I did
not hold the ctrl key when closing windows explorer . I really
appreciate your help and contribution to this forum . I read all your
postings . Thanks again .

Click Start Settings Folder Options General tab.
Click "Custom, based on settings you choose", then click the Settings
button.
Select the settings you want there, and click OK.
For Windows Explorer:
Open only one instance of Windows Explorer.
For a Folder view:
Open only one of the folders in question.
Click View menu Details, and also adjust any other view settings you
want.
Hit the F5 key.
Click the View menuFolder Options (or Tools menuFolder Options), and
click the
View tab. Click the "Like Current Folder" button, and click OK.
Close Explorer by holding down the CTRL key while clicking the X in
the upper right
corner.
See if that helps.

I can no longer maintain " sort by name " when I want to view
details
in my folders . When I close the folders , the files are scrambled
again
. I have tried to reset " remember each folders view settings " and
have
all folders look alike but the files always come up scrambled . TIA
,
for any light anyone can shed on this problem .
