Yeah Buffalo, we do know each other; it is I, the one and only true original
LS that used to post here as you've stated. :-D Just as a note on my
"absence" he It is primarily due to the "heady, and getting headier"
nature of the questions/problems for you/me/we long-time devoted W98 users.
My ability to help is seriously curtailed as I am still a beginner. The
questions are mostly out of my depth at this point. So, in an effort to
still contribute what I can and know something about, I've "moved" to forums
where my limited knowledge may be of use to some. ;-)

OK, moving along in-line:

Greetings Buffalo -

Check - Have done so. As far as Pure DOS goes, I was able to finally

get
there, but not by the Restart in MS-DOS method. Repeated F8 taps

were
successful in getting to DOS.

I'm sure you know that the Restart in MS-DOS is only a DOS window,
especially if you're the LuckyStrike that used to post here quite a
bit.

Well, here I am again baffled. When I use "restart in MS-DOS mode", a full
DOS screen appears, and after about 15 secs or so, the mouse is "searched
for" and recognized, as well as a VGA driver (IIRC). Then I get a prompt of
C:\WINDOWS on the fully black DOS screen, and not a lesser Windows Dos box.

I know whenever I have a major problem that I can't figure out
quickly, one of the things I do is to restore the Registry.
I use a little batch file called RegBack and I save 14 copies of the
Registry.

I'd heard of, and saved a link (somewhere) on that little item. If I recall
correctly, there may have been a minor issue (a drawback, if you will)
concerning the possible results of doing this (?)

I can also quickly restore the Registry that I just changed ,to back
to what it was. (I shut down every nite)
[snip]

Tell me more about he restoring it back to the previous back-up instead of
the selected one. Do you mean to do a second Scanreg /restore and selecting
a different .cab?

snip I can manage dealing with the key afterwards if I
don't want it to run at boot.

I think that can be handled within the AdWatch program itself, also.

Yes, I recollect that as well.

I wouldn't shut the program through ctrl-alt-del but through the
progam itself (may require a reboot to do this to keep it from
startup).

Check - It wouldn't close by any conventional means ("X" or

FileClose) last
night. Hence the *need* to close with Ctrl-Alt-Del was called for.

I meant that if you did reboot, the program probably wouldn't have
started upon the next reboot.

Probably true, but then there was also that possibility of "Because you
didn't shut down Windows properly, there may be errors... blah-blah...
Scandisk" due to the fact that AdWatch was still "running" (?), which I
wanted to avoid. Of course, I had no idea of what was about to happen, and
might add, that the subsequent running of Scandisk may have "saved the day".
:-\\

Send a letter to LavaSoft and/or go through their Q&A or forum.

Check - Too lengthy to send a letter, but I am a member of the forum

at
Lavasoft (some 200+ posts). There were no

"Experts/Mods/Admins/Gurus" etc.
on-line last night when the incident occured. I know that in W98.gen
newsgroup, the "brains" never sleep. g

Well, you are way ahead of the game then.

Izzat so? VBS Depends on who the "competitors" are in that game. (Rule 1 -
They *have* to know less than I.) bg

Thanks for your input. s

You're welcome
PS: Let us know if AdWatch works well for you or not.
There was an update to the Pro version very recently.

Yeah Buffalo I will. I'm running A-AW SE Pro 1.05 (courtesy of Lavasoft for
whom I ended up doing quite a bit of beta-testing versions 1.04b4 through
1.04b9). This was due to a Freezing issue during scanning when "Scan IE
Favorites for Banned URL's" was enabled during use of A-AW SE Personal build
1.03. So, I ran quite a few versions using +debugf and stuff. This present
version works OK, but for a few minor glitches (for me). That's another
story. If you're interested in them (probably not. *grin*) I'll fill you in.

Thanks again from the 'ol LS. S
