I need to know the a-b-c to getting a hosts file working.

My windows directory is not named windows.

I have followed the web instructions. Internet Explorer still brings up a
file that i tried to put in there for 127.0.0.1. It is
"solitairecentral.com"

Any ideas?

This is the top of the file and the entry --

Jim:

127.0.0.1 is the IP address used to identify "Self" on the network so
that will only get you back where you started.

If you want to use the hosts fle to get to solitairecentral.com you need
a utiklity called DIG. assuming you have a DNS server on your network
(Your ISP provides one) you can use DIG to convert
"solitairecentral.com" into the correct IP address.

Try he

http://www.bath.ac.uk/bucs/network/utilities.shtml#dig

They report 209.68.53.211

Thanks for your response, John.

I do not want to get to it, i want to disable the ability to get to it on
the web. That is, i want to turn the IP back to local, where it does not
exist.

I am using an ISP-supplied proxy and the "bypass proxy for local addresses"
is checked in IE tools/Internet options.

I have a Freecell addict here. G
