Bring the ram up to at least 128 mb if it's not already.

Reformat the drive and install win-98 second edition. *Win 98 CD's are
available via torrent download if you don't have one.

I don't know if I want to spend more money upgrading the RAM. It only
has 96mb and a 250mhz processor. I'm trying to spend the minimum
amount of money, which is why I'm using this old sucker instead of
buying a new or used laptop.

I only have the OEM version that is in C:\Windows\Drivers\cabs that
came on the hard drive of my Dell Optiplex GX110. No install CD or
retail product key (as I recently found out about 5 months ago). A
friend gave me a copy of an install CD, but the product key I
extracted from the registry on the Dell didn't work when I was trying
to set up a virtual machine on my then-new Vista computer to see it it
was my Dell that was the cause of the trouble accessing Vista file
shares.

I do have a copy of Windows 2000 Professional lying around gathering
dust., but I'm not sure how it will perform on a 250mhz processor @
96mb of RAM.

Could somebody just provide a couple of links to a couple of cheap
NICs I can order (even e-bay links) that will get me on the night
school's wireless and my home wired network with a minimum of fuss?

I know I'd need to install DSCLIENT as I can't imagine NOT having the
same problem with Win98FE at night school that I did with Win98SE when
I tried to connect to the company's server a couple years back. I'm
just watiing until I can get the thing on the 'net as it's easier to
use the network than burning to a CD-RW.
