Interesting, I tried installing as a network printer, Vista could see it
because I enabled printer sharing, but it couldn't communicate with it.

I thought of a local driver, which I think Vista has, but I'm unclear how to
connect it to the Win98 print server.

Sorry. Thing is, you need Vista drivers for the printer, and when I tried
to
install it manually as a local printer, as per the instructions I recall,
it
turns out Vista comes preloaded with every DeskJet printer *except* 692C.
IOW I'm SOL.

But you might be luckier and find the right driver. Then, as I said, you
install in as a local printer (on some free LPT port) and then run some
command to bind it to the remote printer. Others say you can create a new
port while installing, but I'm not clear on that one and no literature I
have come across seems to be very clear, either.
