Default windows installer/net framework problems

Noel,

I found I didn't have to update the windows installer on a clean Win Me
install to be able to install the .Net 2.0 Framework. Attempting to do
install using the downloaded InstMsiA.exe gave the error message "The
specified service already exists".

I can't help but wonder what goodies and nasties are lurking on a system of
that age especially so given the problems reported. I know that I wouldn't
want it attached to my LAN until I was really sure that it was perfectly
clean.

Note that the installer is named InstMsiA.exe - there is also one
named InstMsiW.exe which is for NT-based systems.

Having said that, Mike is quite right to suggest that you reformat and
reinstall the OS - you never know what 'goodies' the previous users
may have left behind!
