I was very happy with google acces to Usenet,

Explain again why you don't (didn't) access usenet through a normal (and
free) server?

Using Opera 9.64 on Win98 [and very happy except for this tiny
disadvantage, so don't tell me to change to Some other browser.

You should not be using a browser (any browser) to experience usenet.

Since I can't read a single posting on ANY Usenet group,
I now rely upon Eternal September

Why didn't you choose AIOE?

No registration (user-name/password garbage).

However, I can't post through Eternal September.

What are you using (what software) to connect to Maternal September?

What-ever it is, change your server setting to nntp.aioe.org.

YOU DA MAN!

I added nntp.aioe.org to Opera.
All postings from both e-s and aioe appear in one giant list - very slow
to go through.
I right click on the posting and a choice to 'reply' comes up. Select
reply, and then change the 'from' field from e-s to aioe, wirte the reply,
hit send, get an 'error' message something is wrong, but see the reply
posted later !!

Evidently I did that sequence on my 16th attempt to respond, it worked,
but with so many attempts I forgot how I did it.

Thanks.
