The hard disk drive is corrupted or has failed or has a loose connector, or
the hard disk drive controller is faulty, or the hard disk drive is
misconfigured in BIOS setup.
You will need to obtain a boot floppy - see he
http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm
Be sure to follow the directions on the site for creating the boot floppy
from the download file.
You should do a thorough inspection of the hard disk drive installation,
checking for loose connections, then run the hard disk drive diagnostic
program available from the hard disk drive manufacturer's www site.

I have a WIN 98 machine that during boot up gives the following message:
"Drive Not Ready
Insert BOOT diskette in A:
Press any key when ready_"
When I press any key I get.
"Searching for Boot Record from IDE-0. . Not found
Searching for Boot Record from Floppy. .Not found"
Then a repeat of "Drive Not Ready..."
