Default Invalid Setting in MSDOS.SYS file

Noel:
Upon my execution of your most recent step 1.) it brought back the following:

File not found-C:\MSDOS.SYS
0 files copied

What's next?

I don't see how you can get confused between email and a newsgroup - all you

emailed me).

To answer your query, I'm not sure why you have two copies of the IFSHLP.SYS
file present - there should, AFAIK, be only the one in the C:\Windows folder
(but we can worry about that when you're system's running again).
That said, the correct WinbootDir entry for you is

WinBootDir=C:\Windows

Note that the case of WinBootDir may be critical - so ensure you get it
right!
Boot to DOS using your startup floppy

1) Let's create a backup copy before we do anything else!
Type the following command at the A:\ prompt

COPY C:\MSDOS.SYS C:\MSDOS.OLD [enter]
2) Type the following line at the A:\ prompt, and then press ENTER:

attrib c:\msdos.sys -s -h -r

3) Open MSDOS.SYS for editing using the following line

EDIT C:\MSDOS.SYS [enter]
4) Look for the existing WinBootDir entry (it's usually about 3rd or 4th
line), and move the cursor to it

Edit the line so that it reads

WinBootDir=C:\Windows

5) Save the resulting file (ALT, f, s) and exit (ALT,f,x)

6) Type the following line at teh A:\ prompt, and then press ENTER:

attrib c:\msdos.sys +s +h +r

7) remove the floppy and reboot

Please do forgive me? I do not mean to anger anyone. I became confused as
to
which medium you were instructing me to use for reply. I sent you an
email.
At any rate, this is what it said, "Two (2) files were found. one (1) in
C:\WINDOWS and one (1) in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directories.

Err in Window Date: Wed, 22 Mar 2006 09:19:20 -0000 It's most unlikely to
be
your problem - but.... 1) first you need to find out where on your drive
the
Windows folder and IFSHLP.SYS are - Boot to DOS with your floppy - at the
A:\ prompt, type "DIR C:\ifshlp.sys /s /p" (without the quotes - make
sure
that you include the spaces) If your system is 'normal, you'll only get
one
result - with IFSHLP.SYS being found in the C:\Windows directory - if you
get
more (or less!) than one reslut, post back for further instructions, with
detials of where the files were found. "

Step 3:
Also when I opened the MSDOS.SYS file for edit it stated that it was a
"READ ONLY Cannot be modified"

In addition, when I tried to COPY C:\MSDOS.SYS C:\MSDOS.OLD it stated,
"File
Not Found." This was done from the A:\ prompt as you instructed. I
stopped
here!

After following the directions for:

1.) Modify the WinBootDir entry in the Msdos.sys file to point to the
correct location of the Windows folder.

The reboot came back with the following:
Invalid setting in MSDOS.SYS file
WINBOOTDIR=C:\WINDOWSWINBOOTDIR=C:\WINDOWS
Type the name of the Command Interpreter (e.g., C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM)

What have I done wrong and/or misinterpreted? Thanks again in advance!
