Experiment with a different brand media, of high quality.
Check Device Manager to confirm that all drives are UnMarked, and working
properly.
Look for updates to the CD-RW burning software.

I have had this computer for nearly 4 years, and have not
experienced this problem until recently. I have not
installed any new programs that could have created this
problem - it just stopped working one day. Last I
checked, my computer is virus and spyware free.
I have a Sony Vaio PCV-RX380DS, with Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-
116R and Sony CD-RW CRX160E drives. When I insert a CD-
RW, whether it is new, empty or used, the computer prompts
me to insert a disk into the drive, as it cannot read that
current disk. When I try to burn onto a CD-RW using
Adaptec DirectCD, it fails to burn because it does not
recognize the disk. When i insert the same disk into my
other computer (WinXP), I experience no problems.
I have tried to look for any updates with Sony or the
drive makers but have come up empty handed. I have no
problem with CD-R's, but i prefer to use CD-RW for large
file transfers between computers.
Any help is appreciated.
