Default ...hosts file ...

To SEE case in Win98, "START button, Settings, Folder Options, View tab,
check ''Allow all uppercase names". Without it checked, Explorer will
pretty them up for display purposes, although they may actually be mixed
case in reality.

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
Naturally, you will not sue,
should things get worse after this,

| It definitely matters and it should be all uppercase. Since
| Windows will 'pretty' filenames at times and not show it's
| true aspects you should look at the files' properties and note
| it's MS-DOS name? Mine shows all lowercase in Windows Explorer,
| but the MS-DOS name is all uppercase. In my self-rolled HOSTS
| control batch file, I make sure to rename it HOSTS as a DOS
| box can rename in lower case rendering it useless - some spyware
| use this trick to gain control which is why I also set it with
| read-only attributes. But if they can do the rename to lower,
| they can also reset the attributes before hand so no real
| protection. Just a warm fuzzy feeling.
|
| However, I just got the stuff about Busting Banner Ads at
| schooner.com - very interesting stuff. Thanks.

| I had noticed that observation by others but, naming the file hosts
| (lowercase), it immediatley appeared in Windows Explorer etc file
listing
| pane as HOSTS ...so perhaps you're right.

| ...is it supposed to be upper case or lower case, ...or Hosts or
doesn't

| It could be that your hosts file simply needed to be named HOSTS?
| Awful small point but a valid one believe it or not.
