The typical instructions for installing NUSB is:

- unplug all USB devices from your computer
- go into device manager and delete everything related or mentioning
USB. I believe that includes device hubs, controllers, etc.
- reboot the computer, say no or cancel any attempts by win-98 to allow
itself to find or install drivers for new detected hardware
- run the nusb36e file, then reboot

I suppose before deleting anything in device manager you could just run
nusb36e and see if you can access the usb storage devices in question,
and if it doesn't then follow the above instructions and try again.

Also, note that if you are trying to access SD cards that are 4 gb or
larger, you should be aware that the vast majority of SD card readers
will not read those cards (they are based on an older SD-card format).
There are SD card readers that will work under win-98 that will read SD
cards 4 gb and larger (I have such card readers, and have tested them up
to 64 gb).

I'm not trying to install NUSB xxx. I tried that years ago, and all I
can remember is that it messed up windows, forcing me to restore my
backup. I recently found something made specicifically written for ONLY
flash drives. That's all I really want to do is be able to use more
flash drives.

The only other USB stuff I use, is my external hard drives, some up to
1gb. I dont expect those to work on W98. If I need to copy a large
number of files, I just boot this computer to Win2000.

But I have at least 15 flash drives and only 2 of them work on 98. All
are 8gb or smaller (except one 16).

I dont mess with SD cards on this computer. I only have them in my
camera and the camera needs XP to copy the card files to th computer. I
just plug the camera into my XP machine, and if I want to put the pics
on the 98 machine, I use a flash drive.

I haven't used NUSB, but it sounds complex and problematic. I've
personally had good results with JDUSB in Win98SE (assuming USB 1.1 and
2.0). The whole driver set consists of these three files:

JDUSBMS INF 1,403 01-04-05 11:56p JDUSBMS.INF
JDUSBMS SYS 10,176 02-10-03 1:53p JDUSBMS.SYS
JDUSBPD PDR 9,125 02-10-03 1:51p JDUSBPD.PDR

which I can send on request. Just put these three files into any folder
you wish, and when you install any new USB mass storage device and Win98SE
asks for a driver, point it to that folder. This has worked for me with
almost all flash drives I've tried, of all sizes up to a 128 Gb SanDisk.
It has also worked with a 500 Gb external USB-connected hard drive
(divided into partitions less than 128 Gb each).
