Ahhhh..... Glee, you have a *excellent* memory, more than 6 mos. ago. You
had a Jetway MB at your work that had leaky capacitors. I remember, "asking
you the manuf." And, I responded, "that was my board too"!!

No, I was going to put the same board, I went on the Internet and was going
to buy one. My friend talked me into buying a Asus MB. I was glad I did!!
You told me another Jetway was put in the puter at your work and it failed
almost immediately!!

It's Asus P4SGX-MX, I would be really sick.... leaky capacitors again!!

Of course, I just may need to look. I took it down to wks. ago, I couldn't
get into it period, Windows wouldn't load.
I couldn't get into safe mode, the immediate ck. on screen, appeared good,
himen ck. etc.... it went to a blank screen w/flashing cursur over & over.
I went to dos and did scanreg /restore, Windows would restore a good
registry but would not load. After days of this, and I lost data, I
partitioned 2 drives and did a clean install of Windows.

Thank you, I took A+ and I still struggle to maintain my puter, I'm really
on a bummer!! I built my P-3 system and put the Jetway MB in the case,
putting the MB in was the hardest task!!

One thing to consider (though it will require you to open the case and

make a very
close inspection) is that the new mobo's capacitors may have also started
leaking/bulging. As you got a replacement Jetway mobo, it is quite

possible that
you got another board with defective capacitors, if it was an exact

replacement.
Check the mobo at the base of the capacitors, for signs of

leakage.....brown
deposits at the base of the capacitors.

Star,
quote
The exact OE is..............0028:C027F8AB VXD VMM06
/quote
Is not exact.

** Brian, in 2 wks. I have gotten it several times since new install,

have
checked
OE @ 0028:C027F8AB VXD VMM06

You have also provided a bit more info in your response to Dan, although
more would be nice.

Whenever doing a search on any error message, try what becomes

available.
If the text explaining the problem matches ever oh so close, try the
resolution. Near to 99% of the time, anything after the first 4 digits

will
not repeat on the next occurrence, ex: 0028:xxxxxxxx to 0028:xxxxxxxpx.

Also
many articles that mention an OS can/may still apply to another OS.

** Like I mentioned, I went to Jim Elshelman's page on OE"s... I think

it's
one of the best!!
nothing matched, so I concentrated on VMM06, nothing related to
booting/starting Windows, actually this appears to be an error

associated
w/W-95.

The first and foremost Q that comes into play is when the problem first
began. What was the last action performed?

** Like I mentioned in my original post, when I start/boot Windows, not
everytime.

You mention upgrading, more like rebuilding your system and I'm not

speaking
of the OS.

Is your processor faster than 2.GHz? There is an issue with NDIS and

faster
processors.
** It's 2.GHz
How much RAM have you installed? If more than 512MB, you need to either
lower the RAM, set a MaxFileCache and/or MaxPhysPage or install XP.
** Yes, I know, 512 installed, new, 6 mos. old, Fat 32, didn't install

W-XP,
not dual booting.

Have you had a good peek in Device Manager to make sure there are no
conflicts?

** No Brian, I would reinstall device drivers, etc... everything cool in
D/M.

Have a read thru some of these to see if the help:
http://tinyurl.com/3vh2k

No, thank-you I will. Like I explained to Dan in the post I returned to

him.
I built the puter while taking A+ certification, and it was rebuilt, all
new, except HD, modem, and Iomega zip.

I don't like working in the case, I'm fairly savy at partitioning,
formatting, clean install of Windows and installing devices..

Thank you, Star

Again, I'm looling for help/clarification from MVP or *savvy* user.

The exact OE is..............0028:C027F8AB VXD VMM06

I have a new install of Windows... two wks. old.
The system has not been stable. I'm backing up everyday.

Google didn't come up w/exact match.
0028 VXD VMM06, had more luck.

Windows starts up to this OE, I do ctl./alt/del and Windows continues

to
load *only to be desktop w/selected bkgrnd color, mouse pointer that
moves......, and nothing more. I do ct/alt/del, I see only PC-cillin
running, no Explorer.

I do ctl/alt/del and restart and, Windows will load normally.

I went to Jim Elshelman's website, one of the best for Windows errors.
I learned about this being a W95 problem and,
I learned about setup problems in W98.

Can someone help.... RE this error and starting a W98 or W98SE puter,

what
the fix may be.

I have such instability that I'm almost ready to take the puter down,
partition, format and do another clean install of
Windows.

I'm burned out, I love W98se, I have W-XP, I've been learning the

internals
of Windows for yrs., you *must* if you want to maintain your OS. No

pun
intended, I'm ready for a Macintosh!!

Thank you,
Star
