Default Mart - AVG Updates - STILL available!

Hello back to you, I hope you enjoyed your meal, just seen when you sent the
reply and I'm only just replying back g Give Ron my love and wish him a
very Happy Birthday from me and John. I like crab, you can definitely keep
the mussels I've never liked them since being young Mum and Dad had them a
lot, yuck.

Have you got that router set up yet or are you still playing chicken with it
vbg I've got to try and lay down the law and get my line gain upgraded, my
service is for up to 8 MB but my line is only capable of 2 MB and I'm
getting no where near that, I don't understand the results of these speed
tests but I've been told I should get faster speed for my ADSL than I get.
g

Anyway going to go and catch up, I'm a moderator and administrator on a
site now so got to catch up g
Love to you and Ron.

Double here too. Hi to everyone cuz I have been really remiss with
emails. So hi to all of the gang!! Thanks Joan for the card......(hiding
head in shame). Ron's b'day tomorrow so heading out to our favourite
chinese restaurant (Mandarin Buffet) for dinner. The old crab wants just
that.......lots of crablegs, lol. So I will stuff myself with shrimp and
mussels and he can eat the crab.

All are relatively well. The "relative word" meaning that none of us is
getting any younger, ergo our state of wellness is older as well. (G) Did
that make any sense??? I reminded myself of Shane when I wrote that.
ACK!! Kissies Shane.

Still coolish here today......about 14C. Not sure if we will holiday this
year, but looking at what is now called "staycations".......eerrgghh, hate
cute words. Might head on down to Quebec and then again might just do day
trips.

Cheers to all of you and I will get my mojo working again, I think.

That's good to hear, I haven't fired mine up for a while, (I can't get in
the room for all Kelly's stuff in store) so I know it needs an update of
AVG. g

Soothsayers please note:- here we are into May and just when you're led
to believe that WinMe has been forgotten, a quick 'fire-up' of my old
WinMe notebook reveals that not only are AVG *STILL* pushing out their
daily 7.5 definition updates, but the MS WinMe (and I guess Win98)
Update site (OK, no NEW updates, but will still let you 'update' a clean
install) is *STILL* available.

WinMe is alive and well. Thanks, AVG (formerly Grisoft) - and also MS -
for your continued 'unofficial' support of Win9x products.

Thanks for that link Noel. I'm just a little sceptically optimistic as
to exactly what they mean by updates. Do they mean updating their
v7.5.xxx 'engine' which was frequently 'occasional' and/or do they
(also) mean their very regular 'daily' definition updates.

My guess is that their defs. would be very similar to those for v8.x
etc. and I would like to hope that they will at least continue the
defs. for 7.5 for as long as they are compatible. That can't be too
much of a task - can it?

Still, in spite of my total satisfaction with 7.5, as others have said,
alternatives are still available out there and perhaps "better the
devil ..." Just so sad to lose their win9x cover.

Actually Harry, it is a bit of a surprise to me especially when they
were (allegedly) talking of ending 'Support' sometime last year and
then they (allegedly, via a forum) said that they were dropping the
definitions on 25th February 2009 and yet they were/are still
providing them even up until today. All very confusing.

I wonder if Noel could share his source as I can't find any reference
to April 2009 on the AVG main web site. I'll just stick with it until
(unless??) the defs. just stop. Even a manual update gives no warning
(as yet) of the impending demise.

According to AVG, they stop providing any support at the end of
April.

Which shouldn't come as a surprise, I suppose. H.

AVG Updates

FYI and FWIW, as at 1st March, Grisoft are still 'updating' their
AVG 7.5 Free definitions. Just downloaded Virus base
270.11.5/1979 dated 1st March 2009 @ 17.46 Hrs (GMT?) onto my two
WinMe boxes. Another reprieve perhaps?

Thanks Mart, only I don't use AVG anymore. Went back with Avast,
because AVG was aking me to purchase the pro.ver. (must have
downloaded from the wrong site).
I somehow prefer Avast for whatever reason.
At any rate, whoever is using AVG can update now, unless they are
on 'auto pilot'.

Harry.

Hi Harry - and HL (long time, no speak, or in HL speak - Good to
hear your face!). BTW - Whatever happened to Jack Martinelli?
Sorry, I digress.

Yes, I've got AVG (free) running without any problems on my
Vista and XP PC's. I only run full scans once a week which seem
to have kept me safe.

Regarding AVG 7.5xx (for Win9x), I read in the Win98 Group (Glen
Ventura, aka glee) that the definition updates will cease at the
end of February. What a shame, but as that being the case, I'll
probably wait to see what effect the last update has - i.e.,
will it give me a permanent nag screen? - or will I be able to
live with it. Otherwise I will probably (attempt to) install
Avast. Is Win9x still being targeted?

I've lived with AVG for as long as I can remember and it's never
let me down. I'll be sorry to lose it.

Hey H,
I have put Avast! on three Vista machines with no
problems out of any of them. I think Avast! and AVG are very
comparable.

Heirloom, old and either it is foggy outside
or my eyes are going

Hello Mart (from Vista):

Remember you being an 'AVG' fan and me preferring 'Avast',
pertaining to 'ME'?
Now that I am in WinVista I wound up installing AVG, after
removing McAfee and it is performing nicely.

Harry.
