That was it exactly. I found BASE2.CAB in C:\WINME and I was able to
make a startup disk. I don't know how I would have gotten this
information without the help of this forum.

What registry key and value can I edit to have this redirection occur
automatically. This would be a big help for the next time someone
wants to make a startup disk on this computer.

Paul,

I'm pleased to read that you've now solved the problem of making a startup
disk. Correcting the registry entry will not only make making a startup
disk much easier next time someone might want to make one on that PC but
also allow them to use MSConfig to extract files from the Win Me cab set
[MSConfig | General | Extract file].

Correcting the problem:
Use regedit (Start, Run, enter Regedit in box and click OK)
Brows in the left hand pane to the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Setup
Now in the right hand pane look for the string value "SourcePath". double
click this value and enter the name of the folder containing BASE2.CAB
including the full path, for example, C:\WINME\
Click OK and close regedit.

Check that all is now OK by making another Win Me startup disk.

Regards,
