Default backing up

1. You can't "transfer" your programs from 98 to XP Home except by first =
transferring the entire 98 system to the new machine and then upgrading =
to XP--and even then, it can be a messy affair, requiring apps to be =
reinstalled.=20

2. As Richard says, if all you want to do is transfer your personal =
files, program preferences, ISP and email accounts, etc., the FAST is =
the answer. It can be run from the XP CD.

3. For reading backups made of a 98 system on an XP machine, you need to =
use a backup software that is compatible with both. The included Windows =
Backup apps are pretty much restricted to use on the same version of =
Windows with which they came, and are not cross-compatible.

If you could provide more information on your setup, it would help. You =
have two machines? Describe them in detail--make/model, speed RAM, etc. =
In particular, what is the make/model of your XP machine? Also, did you =
speak correctly when you said that you wanted to transfer "programs"? =
Not just personal data and things like ISP settings, etc.? Some examples =
would help.
