That fixed it, thanks! I was using a MS ME disk. I
think you 100% correct with Compaq and ME. I also
minimized my ME install and added features a couple at
time.

I suspect that Compaq have, in their usual way, used
highly proprietary
hardware, which a 'normal' ME can't cope with. (Is the
ME you're using an
OEM disk, or an MS one?)
