many reasons, if the motherboard bios only recognises 20GB, that is all you
get without a software overlay
or the autoselect is disabled and or not working correctly
try manual selection and enter the drive parameters from the manufacturers
data sheet
if Ben Myers' suggestion doesnt fix it
