Default Installing Win 98 on new kit

Not likely to get win98 working on that machine.

Win98 can fail on some CPU's higher than 2.2ghz.

Well first of all, only the most recent (and most EXPENSIVE) core-2
duo's run at 2.2 ghz or more.

Second, the 2.2 ghz problem you speak of only applies to windows-95
and windows-98 FIRST EDITION.

Win98-second edition installs and runs fine on cpu's 2.2 ghz or
faster.

and it's very unlikely you'd be able to get chipset drivers etc for
a machine that new.

Depends on the chipset. If it's VIA, then he should have no problems
running win-98 on it.

I'm running win-98 on a motherboard with socket 775 (core, core-2
compatible) with a via chipset, Celeron-D 3.46 ghz.

Yes ...as a matter of fact I have win98se on a 2.6ghz celeron and it does
run fine...
I've seen a number of posts where people cannot get it running on a fast
CPU...
but as you mentioned...that's apparantly win98(FE) rather than SE...

at any rate , there is evidently some h/w that's preventing the OP's win98
install from working
