Default splash screen and standby questions

If you copy logo.sys (not logow.sys) from an earlier version of Windows and
put it in the root folder, it would be used rather than the Win98 default
logo which is built into IO.SYS. You will not find a logo.sys file on an
unmodified Win98 system or on later versions of Windows. You can also use
any bmp file of your choice that is 320 x 400 x 256 colors and named to
logo.sys and placed in the root folder.

The splash screen should remain displayed for the same period at each boot
unless you have made some change. On some systems, it will remain displayed
without interruption and on others, initializing the display adapter will
interrupt the logo display. I don't think there's any way to change that or
to force the logo to display for a period of time.

To remove the Standby feature from Windows, you may be able to disable this
feature in the BIOS. Windows recognizes the system's ability to do this and
then includes it. This may require a clean install since it's already
there.

i have three technical questions pertaining to windows 98:

ONE: i am using the asus a7v333-x motherboard, 3dfx voodoo4 4500 agp and
viewsonic p95f+ monitor. and i am wondering if theres a setting i can
change,
remove or uninstall, from the system, that doesnt require editing the
registry, to have the "Standby" feature removed from both the start menu
and
power management applet?

TWO: during the basic bios/post of my computer the windows 98 splash
screen
displays for a few moments and occasionally disappears to either a blank
screen or listing of my pcs initialized hardware. -all before successfully
loading windows and showing the desktop. i am wondering if its possible to
change something inside windows that will display the windows splash
screen
consistently until the windows desktop starts to load. ive noticed
sometimes
that the splash screen displays for either one second or several seconds
while windows loads. if its just a second, sometimes it just goes to a
blank
screen. but i dont want it to display a blank screen or system POST while
loading windows. i want the splash screen to continuously show all the way
through the period of time taken just before seeing the desktop. whether
im
waiting 3 seconds or 8 seconds. is there a way of specifying how long the
splash screen displays without just stating to show it or not show it, but
a
specified length of time? i know its possible to either turn it on or off
with the TweakUI utility or just delete the logo.sys file, but i dont want
to
do that, or just switch it on or off.

and

FINALLY: if i were able to take an earlier or later version of windows and
copy its startup splash screen .sys file and use it on a version of
windows
not related, i.e., use the original splash screen from windows 98 on a
windows xp system; how would i do this, without creating a special splash
screen from scratch? cant i just copy the operating systems splash .sys
file
from one system to another and have it load and work? i tried this once
before and there was no change.

thank you
