Default Not enough memory, it says...

Mike, I hate to disagree with the person who knows the system, but I'd

That's quite amazing and I can't help feel that I've probably been
wasting my time. Perhaps I ought to remind you that it was YOU that
started this thread reporting problems and asking how to resolve them!

I'm sorry that you have never used system restore (SR) and this does
lead me to wonder why you upgraded to Win Me if you weren't interested
in one of its major features, another being the related system file
protection (SFP), with both SFP and SR being functions of Win Me's state
manager. No doubt you had your reasons and I guess those were important
to yourself but for a system that isn't going to be updated or used to
connect to the net you might as well have stuck with Win 98.

You asked in your very first post:

Please tell me how I can run Task Manager in ME so
that I can see what's happening in RAM.

and I responded that you couldn't. If you weren't really interested in
installing your modem why didn't you quit then? As to where you go from
here I think I should leave that to you to decide as I feel that you
will always do what you want regardless of what I have to say. I know I
would if I were in your position. vbg

Cheers and the best of luck,

Mike, you recall that I have been using XP for 3+ years and
the only reason I resuscitated an older OS was that I have
certain mathematical DOS programs which will not run on XP.
Heaven knows I tried enough work-arounds. The reason for
going to ME was that I like the appearance of ME, and it's newer
and presumably better. You pointed out ways that it's better
but those don't appeal to me.

My method of program security involves cloning my Master Drive
as often as I am so disposed. In eras gone by, I did backup
on 5" floppies, then on various kinds of mag tape, but now I
like cloned hard drives.

I gather that I haven't been able to procure the data to help
you to unlock the mystery of my error message. You've led me
to new and interesting places, where other men but not this one
had gone before. and that's always nice, but my basic problem
still is that I need to get rid of the error message. If you'd
rather not proceed further on that task, I'll thank you for
your efforts, and prompt follow-up, and start back at a clone
(full restore point) that works, and proceed one step at a
time......carefully. I do appreciate your help.
