Default unable to install antivirus and service packs

Any suggestions other than re-install?

No since it could well be quicker. There is no reason why you are seeing
Windows Installer errors when installing updates from the Win Me Windows
Update site if you started with a clean system.

Thanks so much for responding. I bought this computer at a police
auction. The hard drive was wiped clean, so yes, it was a clean
install. As far as AVG is concerned, I did go all the way back to the
oldest version I could find, with no luck.
My hard drive is not partitioned, so I can go back and start over,
It's just that I had to fight with bellsouth (internet provider) to
help me get internet setup without paying the $139 they wanted for
tech support for win me. I did install most of the updates a few at a
time, except for the ones that said they had to be installed alone.
As far as the order I installed them, I really can't tell you, I just
started at the top and went down. Critical first, then the rest
without the language updates. I only want to be able to check my
email from this computer without having to go all the way to the
basement to my office. My kids have already been on this computer
once they realized it had internet, so I may already have viruses, or
worse. Thanks again for your help. Any suggestions other than
re-install?
