Default ME Installation

Thanks for your help Mart. I have tried as you suggested and here's where I
am at on it. I can get into safe mode and into Dev.Man and remove the errors
under the question marks but it does not solve the problem and when I reboot
and enter safe mode again the following errors continue to reappear:

PCI Card
PCI System Management Bus
PCI Universal Serial Bus

I tried physically removing what looks to be a modem from the PCI card but
it didn't change my results which is to always return to ME setup then get
frozen out. I can't install any drivers because I can't do it in safe mode
and my keyboard and mouse are frozen in the setup. For the same reason I
can't install or reformat anything at all. Wondering if this is a hardware
problem with my motherboard or a software problem with my drivers and if
there are any other solutions that I could try.

Thanks again.

You appear to have a driver issue associated with a network device. (A LAN
card, modem or router?)

Try re-booting into Safe Mode (by tapping at the F8 key or holding the Shift
key during the boot process).

Then look in Device Manager and see what errors (Yellow exclamation/question
marks) are showing. Make a note of the device(s) - probably a
network/modem/router card/device - and "Remove" it (using Dev.Man)

Make sure you have the (network) device drivers to hand (supplied separately
on a disk associated with the device?), then re-boot your PC and (hopefully)
it will attempt to boot into Normal Mode and whilst doing so, should ask you
for the (network) device drivers.

Navigate to the drivers and WinMe installation *should* complete.

If, after attempting the above, the PC still continues to hang, then you may
have to physically remove the device identified in Dev.Man, from your PC,
and then worry about drivers for that device later. Try to keep your
hardware to an absolute (essential) minimum during the initial setting-up
process.

Good luck

Mart

I am trying to install Windows ME on a new hard drive that was just
purchased. After partitioning and setting up the installation is stuck on
the final step in the process called "Setting up Hardware and Finalizing
Settings". The error that comes up is titled "Network" and says "You must
provide computer and workgroup names that will identify this computer on
the
network" then there is a "OK" button.

The problem is all my functions are frozen, my keyboard and mouse do not
work on this screen so I can't move on. I have tried three different
keyboards and mice to no avail. I am using a Microsoft installation CD
that
came with my Dell computer. I also have an XP upgrade CD and have tried
using that but it doesn't do anything.

I can reboot the computer but it always ends up back at the same place
with
no keyboard or mouse working so I can't complete the install. Any other
suggestions?
