Using Firefox 2.0.0.16, I keep getting the following warning message ...

"Warning: Unresponsive script
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding.
You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will
complete."

for websites like www.rei.com and others.

What can be done to work around this?

I had the same with AVG 8 internet site protection.
AVG installed an add-on without asking permission.
I disabled the add-on and the problem went away.

As far as anti-virus software goes, I have Norton AV (not AVG),
which comes with Norton SystemWorks. If the problem is related to
anti-virus software, I've had Norton AV for a long time. But,
this warning message keeps popping up only within the last few days.
It is making my system annoyingly sluggish.

This problem occurs only with FF (not IE). The problem occurs with
mail.google.com as well.
