Default Resources

It seems ridicualous to have a good Antivirus AVG, running with a crap one
Norton, uninstall Norton and update AVG to new version 7 from
www.grisoft.com

My HP deskjet G85 runs very well without the tray icon installed
Resource meter just uses resources
Software modem boosters are failry useless just install a good host file to
cut out the advertising and see how fast your connection runs,, and If you
are on a NIC and cable the driver is installed below, have absolutely no
effect since you are not using a dialup modem at all
Office startup is useless
Tea timer is good if your surfing habits leave you open to attacks, ie you
click on links without caring what they are, but otherwise can be removed
from within spybot settings menu
MDM can go
Windows Critical update is not much use, to check for OS updates every 10
minutes?? waste of time, click the link in the start menu once a day once a
week since MS doesnt update every 10 minutes

| I am having big problems with my Win 98 SE PC having the resources sucked
| out of it. Right now, according to the Resource Meter, it is:
|
| System Resources: 32%
| User Resources: 32%
| GDI Resources: 63%
|
| I usually have to reboot in order to get it back up. Usually, I'm running
| Outlook, Outlook Express, and maybe a couple of IE windows. I have 256
RAM.
|
| I don't know what to tweak in order to fix this problem. Here's what is
in
| my startup:
|
| command: C:\PROGRAM FILES\GRISOFT\AVG6\avgcc32.exe /startup - in my
SysTray
| command: C:\PROGRA~1\GRISOFT\AVG6\Avgserv9.exe
|
| command: c:\windows\SYSTEM\wucrtupd.exe -startup (Windows Critical Update)
|
| command: DAW9532.EXE (3COM network card)
|
| command: c:\mouse\system\em_exec.exe (mouse)
|
| command: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\hpztsb04.exe (HP DeskJet Taskbar Utility) - in
my
| SysTray
|
| command: Rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,LoadCurrentPwrScheme
| command: Rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,LoadCurrentPwrScheme
|
| command: loadqm.exe (MSN Queue Manager)
|
| command: C:\NKLINE GLOBAL\MODEM BOOSTER\ModemBtr.exe - in my SysTray
|
| command: c:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\NAVAPW32.EXE (Norton anti-virus) - in my
| SysTray
| command: C:\PROGRA~1\SYMNET~1\SNDMON.EXE (Norton Live Update)
|
| command: RUNDLL32.EXE c:\windows\SYSTEM\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup (NVIDIA Media
| Center Library)
| command: RUNDLL32.EXE c:\windows\SYSTEM\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit
| command: nwiz.exe /install (NVIDIA nView Wizard)
|
| command: c:\windows\scanregw.exe /autorun (Scan Registry)
|
| command: c:\windows\taskmon.exe (Task Monitor)
|
| command: C:\Program Files\APC\APC PowerChute Personal Edition\mainserv.exe
| command: C:\Program Files\APC\APC PowerChute Personal Edition\Display.exe
| (APC UPS Status) - in my SysTray
|
| command: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MDM.EXE (Machine Debug Manager)
|
| command: mstask.exe (Scheduling Agent) - in my SysTray
|
| command: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Script
| Blocking\SBServ.exe" -reg
|
| command: C:\PROGRAM FILES\SPYBOT - SEARCH & DESTROY\TeaTimer.exe - in my
| SysTray
|
| command: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
|
| command: C:\WINDOWS\RSRCMTR.EXE (Resource Meter) - in my SysTray
|
| command: C:\WINDOWS\DRWATSON.EXE - in my SysTray
|
| Is something listed above sucking up resources? Is there something that I
| should uncheck? Is there somewhere else I should be checking? This is
| getting so old having to restart.
|
| Thanks for any advice,
| Debbie
