Have you tried after insuring both lpt ports were setup as ECP or EPP and
windows has assigned an interrupt to them? Ther lpt route is the preferred
connection method as it's so much faster.

The com port method demands a null modem cable although personally I'd
suggest getting a regular cable and a null modem "gender bender" to make the
purchase a little more versatile.

I don't believe Windows cares about what com port is used, e.g. regarding
posters comment about using "lower" first. Notice how it enumerates thru the
com ports when searching for a modem, e.g. highest to lowest and will easily
use com4 with nothing on 1, 2 or 3. In fact doesn't even seem to care if
they even exist.

IIRC Windows 'demands' something be active on the lower COM port
before it 'sees' the higher one. IOW if COM1 is empty and you plug
something into COM2 the device on COM2 acts like it's on COM1.

Also, you will need either a null modem (crossover) cable or null
modem adapter to connect the two serial (COM) ports. Connecting pin2
to pin3 and pin3 to pin2 should work.
