Default Mike M--My Problem with Nuisance Temp Files

Carol,

Your post was never an annoyance. Like yourself I am still mystified as
to the source of these files since you don't have the Microsoft Debug
Manager (mdm.exe) installed or running nor do you have Internet Explorer
configured to debug errors. As you say the problem seems to be linked
with having installed the PowerPoint viewer and it would appear that
installing this is what might have triggered their generation even though
you have subsequently uninstalled this viewer.

The best of luck with your system and please post back if you ever find
the answer to the fff*.tmp file problem.

Now to see if I can find your next post.

Hi Mike

Just a belated follow-up.

I installed the new modem without a hitch--even though it took me
another few days to get motivated to do it--and my slow and stalling
downloading problems are history :-)) But the fff files are still
getting dropped into the Windows folder. Because I'm now convinced
the PowerPoint Viewer (which remains "uninstalled") has permanently
changed something, I might try uninstalling Word 97 and Works to see
if I can clear out all Microsoft Office settings--but it would
probably be easier and just as effective to bite the bullet and
resign myself to deleting those useless rascals manually for the rest
of my life (or at least until a reformat '-)

So sorry to have bothered you with this nonsense . . . but I'm really
happy to have finally gotten that new modem installed :-))

I need to ask another question, not especially Me related--but I'm
sure the answer is somewhere in this group :-))) Will start a new
thread.

Thanks Mike for all your time and trouble.
