Elaine, have you got access to another monitor you can try? borrow one of a
friend or neibour perhaps. you could also try posting in this NG

Along with the reinstall of windows98, i also lost my
sound. I've been trying to find and dowload the correct
drivers but whenever i try to download them it just turns
off on me again so i'm a bit stuck here. HELP
