Default My laptop tries to boot with the floppy drive

Something has changed with my laptop. When I reboot after it has been off
for awhile, like overnight, it tries to boot from the floppy drive and I get
"operating system not found". Changing the boot option to the hard drive
does no good. If I install the System Disk 1, change the boot option to the
CD ROM drive, and run through most of the diagnostics, it will eventually
boot on C: but very slowly. The more times I attempt a reboot, the faster it
gets. Once it is booted, I can restart the laptop and everything boots
normally (but it runs slower than normal). However, when I leave it off
overnight, it tries to boot from the floppy again and I get "operating system
not found". Norton Utilities Virus Scan and Lavasoft Ad-Aware have been
ineffective.
