Hi

I'm trying to sort out a friends old pc. They've been running WinME on it.
Recently it has stopped working. They haven't put in new hardware or changed
anything. It just has stopped working. They've brought it round and when I
boot up from either the hard disk or the CD nothing is recognised. I've
opened it up and pushed in all connections. Still no good.

I've been into BIOS and it says there are no hard drives. When I try and
boot up from the OEM CD recovery disk it fails saying I should put in a
bootable disk. The CD looks fine

I have managed to boot up from a floppy but again nothing else is
recognised.

So ... it is likely that it has had it and is now destined for it's final
resting place (that is, becoming a linux server ;0))

because of course linux servers don't require boot devices

Simple testing (requires cracking the case):

power:

move the HD power leads onto the floppy and see if it will spin up.

signal:

move the IDE cable to the other connector on the MB; still no joy then
switch out the cable.

Thanks in advance
