Default im having trouble with my color screen looks like safe mode

You have to realize that these resource/speed issues have a widely varying
impact on the system depending on the hardware. To make such broad
statements without putting them into context with regard to motherboard/CPU
and video card specs is being just too broad.

Well, it required a reboot, but I tried that small font setting with
this new EN5400e 15" LCD monitor, same Trident Blade 3D/MVP4 (63) video
adapter. Things are readable, but small-- especially the icons in the
system tray are small. I guess I'll stick with that same modification,
but I guess the chances of true unreadability is slim...

"If you move the Screen Area slider to 1024x768 there, possibly click
the Advanced button, & select Large fonts too— or there is a chance you
end up with tiny, unreadable fonts!"

But, as far as "True Color (32 bit)", I'm fairly sure I read that bit
about resources in "Windows 98 Secrets" (Livingston/Straub), & likely
I'll let that be. But let me go to THAT setting too a while before a
final, irrevocable decision is made-- damn, it says there may be
problems without another reboot, if I change to it. Therefore, I must
remember to try it later.

Thanks or Good Luck,

| No, that part was all me. Starbuck squeezed nicely into quotes— &
hasn't oozed

| | As I see it, you were quoting starbuck, who was initially a Win95
MVP IIRC.

older

| | | Really, you should need nothing
| | | higher than "High Color (16 bit)", for speed/resource
considerations.
| | |
| | | If you move the Screen Area slider to 1024x768 there, be sure
to click
| | | the Advanced button, & select Large fonts.
| | |
| | | respectfully disagree, but only through 3 years of experience
with my
| | | current set-up.
| | | mine is set to "True Color" (32 bit) (no problems with
speed/resourse.)
| | | slider is set to 1024x768 (agreed) but Advanced button yields
small
| | fonts..
| | | have had no probs and visibility is fine.
| | |
| | | guess gist is, diff' strokes fer diff' folks
| | |
| | | 98
| |
| | That's the 2nd complaint I've had about that line. I guess it must
vary
| | per
| | video adapter &/or monitor what happens when you go to small fonts
at
| | 1024x768.
| | Also, some adapter/monitor software may better handle the load of
"True
| | Color"
| | (32 bit). But I do know with a Trident Blade 3D/MVP4 (63) video
adapter &
| | my
| | Compaq supersized MV720 monitor (now dead), it was impossible to
read the
| | START
| | menus & Desktop at that setting! The font & icons were way too
tiny!
| |
| | Nevertheless, I'll see whether I can modify the language for that
line a
| | little
| | next time I post it, as you & the other one add up to two now. OK,
thanks.
