Default Explorer 6 update

That could be worth a bundle of money to someone, including me.
Whenever I go back to my 'old ME', I experience a feeling of exaltation and
sadness at the same time. It was very good to me while it lasted and it may
be for a long time to come.

Harry.

FWIW, there's detailed procedures for both reinstalling IE6 in ME, and
reinstalling ME over itself on my site.

I know this is a very old thread, but it needs one addition. When
reinstalling IE6 with SP1 it will be necessary to use Windows Update to
download the security updates because they were lost with the uninstall.

Great news!

Glad it worked for you too.

Cheers.

Thank you -- it worked like a charm.

Note: Someone had suggested a similar procedure in response to another
post
regarding the same problem, which did not work for me. I think this
one
worked because, while having Windows Update open, I first moved the
old IE
info into a separate folder and then attempted the download.

Try this:

Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View:
- Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK

Create a folder named "Old uninstall".

Go to folder C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Uninstall
Information.

Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files.

Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files.

Update IE6 again and you should be able to install all the
troublesome
components.

If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall"
folder
and the files you moved.

Good luck,

Zee

news No, I did not uninstall IE6 SP1 prior to reinstallation and I would
not
know
how to do that unless it is the same as Q891781, the only Internet
Explorer
program on my add/remove program list.

Btw, the folder Internet Explorer\uninstall information contains
several
items renamed ie5old.

X-post to WinME General

Did you uninstall IE6 SP1 prior to reinstalling WinME?

I just had to reinstall Windows ME and several attempts to
install
Explorer
6 SP1 have failed. I get the error message that the Resume
Windows
Update
link refers to a location that is not available. It seems that
the
file
ie6setup.exe does not get downloaded. At least there is no such
folder
in
the temp folder and it does not show when I do a search. All
other
files
listed in the folder iesetup (configuration setting) are
present.

Does anybody know where I can find the ie6setup.exe file or how
I
can
get
it
to download?

I also have been unable to install the security update KB888113.
It
tells
me that the installation was successful, but it pops up again
every
time I
run Windows update.

Any suggestion?
