Default Booting Problem....Stick on an Update trying to finish

Although - in general - a clean, fresh (re-)install is usually regarded as a
last resort and, as your are (understandably) pretty much determined to go
down that route, here are a couple of good articles and pointers to assist
:-

Look for and print out (if you can find it in your Windows folder)
cleanhd.txt or go to the following site :-
"Windows Millennium Edition Cleanhd.txt File Contents"
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;271673

For specific information on formatting your HDD, read :-
"How to Use the Fdisk Tool and the Format Tool to Partition or Repartition a
Hard Disk"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255867/en-us
especially the section on formatting.

However, if you are prepared to tackle a re-install first (recommended), you
might wish to try Noel Paton's site for further very helpful practical
advice and tips :-

"Re-installing ME over itself"
http://www.crashfixpc.com/reinME.htm

Be sure though, to get the Windows Updates - before they vanish from the MS
website. (See also recent discussions in the windowsme.general newsgroup.

Whichever route you choose, good luck and come back to let us know how you
fared - or even if you need further advice.

Tried the Restore and it wouldn't work. I'm
having such
a hard time with the machine what if I did a
simple reformat
(A: format c: /s ...... of the HD, and then
reinstall WinMe
from the mgf's recover disks? Or from a Win Me
disk ?
Would this work ?
Is there a website that would give me the
instructions.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Try running System Restore and rolling back to a
day or two BEFORE this
problem started?

If your System Restore isn't working for some
reason (you've disabled it?)
you could try a scanreg /restore.

When booting up in Win Me a screen comes up
asking
whether to
finish the install of Internet Explorer or do a
complete re-install.
Doesn't matter which one you choose it doesn't
do
anything. If
I cancel it seems to go okay until you try to
use
IE then it goes to
Active Desktop error page. Fix that, back to
the
desktop but
still doesn't work. Keeps freezing up.

Haven't use this for sometime and trying to set
it
up for the kids
to do their homework on. It's a Micron PC w/Win
Me.

Was going to either do a Re-install, still have
the system disks,
but the PC won't recognize any programs in the
CD
drive ?

Also tried to use the Dos boot us and that
didn't
help.

Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance for the
help
!
