I have to admit, I was impressed with the amount of detail the software
provided. Now if I can get an understanding of what 50% of it means.
And an action plan to execute a fix.

What were the errors, exactly? A file should have been written to the diskette when
done....DA.LOG or DA.TXT....with the detailed results in report form. Could you
copy/paste that report in a reply here?

The pie chart showing all red is "unknown" file system. Pink is NTFS, blue is
FAT32, green is FAT, as I recall. If the drive was showing red, then thefile
system is not being recognised at all by Ontrack. We really need to see the report
it made.


Like I said above, it passed all the tests with a few errors.


....and the errors are.............?


With this drive I've tried:
Setting up new partitions.
Formating one of the smaller partitions to insert an operating sys.
Using an AV (F-Prot Dos) to check the drive.

The AV will only check the newly formated partition (E).
All the other old partitions (C and D) come back with a drive error
message.


...and the exact error message in its entirety is......?


How or if, I insert an Operating system into drive E?
Will that help me access any leftover masked data on the disk?


Let's see the report first. As I said earlier, if the drive can be read,I would
mount it to a desktop with an adapter, to copy files.


I may be able to get another 2545, then maybe I can swap out parts.
Hopefully I can and see what the expense of replacing the affected part
will cost.

BTW, have you had any experience with Ontrack recovery software?
Do you know the proceedure or command to boot an operating from the
recovery CD via floppy A, to partition E?


I've never used their recovery software. Other software has been recommended to me,
but let's see what is going on with the file system first.

Sorry for the late reply!

I could only access the Bios once.
I wanted to make sure the Bios was set to boot to the floppy.
That's the floppy with the software you wanted me to test the drive
with.

Well the Bios came up and the system hung up.

It's been 2 days and it hasn't started back up since.

I never got a chance to run the software.

It just keeps lighting up the lights (plugged in and computer on).
The hard drive gives one Whurr and nothing else happens.
It won't reset (when reset is pressed) or power down (when shut offis
pressed).
So I have to un-plug it and try again.

I will keep trying daily, with the software ready to go in floppy A
drive.

Why would my laptop act this way?

Yes it has a floopy drive.

I initially had a virus, which was on a HD that was not backed up
recently. So I got another HD and installed it.

With either drive the machine still acts the same.

So I tested the second drive in another borrrowed Tosh Sat 2105CDS.
Same result.

I like your diagnosis, what would be my next step in finding the
problem?
