Well I've just done something that seems to have returned my display
settings to how they were before.

Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Class\DISPLAY

0000 folder was empty: I made it the same as 0001. Then I removed the
monitors from Device Manager in normal mode and chose Add New Hardware -
Windows detected my monitor and a default ( as it was before).

Now under HKLM\Enum\Monitor my monitor is listed directly under monitor
and
not included under Default_Monitor as it was before.

Have I solved my problem!!! I will have to wait and see if it holds.
I'm still confused over all the stuff under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Class\DISPLAY though.

With the Display Adapter removed the listing under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Class\DISPLAY
is
the
same apart from the folders 0011 and 0012 which are gone and return
after
reboot.

Open Device Manager
Remove ALL Display Adapters
Remove ALL Monitors
Reboot to Normal Mode - Windows will reinstall the required
drivers -

Odd, as your registry 'appears' to still show 'numerous'
(12?)
monitors
enumerated. Just wonder if the re-boot is pulling an 'old'
registry
back
somehow.

Can you temporally substitute with another monitor until you
get
a
'stable'
registry?

Have a look in your Windows\inf\others folder for monitor
driver
.inf
files
and delete (or rename) them. Then let the plug'n'play
redetect.

Have you tried the (monitor) manufacturers web site for
WinMe
drivers?
