Default Soothsayers

Corday urged us to :-

At least make sure System Restore is working.

Which neatly reminds us why we (will always?) need the WinMe Windows Updates
to be available - or at least some of the important kb fixes. System Restore
will not work on a 'clean install' without the September 8, 2001 fix.

"Checkpoints that you create after September 8, 2001 do not restore your
computer"

If/when that and several other of the important fixes are denied us then
sadly, we really do have to consider consigning our kit to the dumpster.

Best way to keep ME functioning is don't tinker with it. Don't duplicate
3rd
party software (piling similar functions on top of one another). I know
this
is controversial, but reboot rather than use sleeping option when
restarting
after finishing a session. One bad thing is with no real Administrator's
rights, you can't protect against what less qualified users can
accomplish.
At least make sure System Restore is working.

Well, here we are at the start of 2009 and not only are the MS WinMe
Updates still available, but also AVG (Free) definitions are still
automatically downloading themselves to my WinMe boxes.

There's still life (and hope) for the old kit yet.

And a Happy New Year to those who still lurk in the WinMe Groups

Yeah, well, there's a few of us.

My primary computer is Vista now. My kids machines are XP or Vista. But
I
still have two laptops here running ME and my Dad's computer runs ME as
well. And runs it well, now that I think of it. It's never crashed in
more
than a year and a half and it runs 24/7, except for power failures.
